Fluid - M/T: Service and Repair
Transmission Fluid Inspection and ReplacementNOTE: Use fender covers to avoid damaging painted surfaces.
1. Raise the vehicle on the lift.
2. Remove the engine undercover.
3. Remove the check bolt (A) and washer (B). Check the condition of the fluid and make sure it is at the proper level (C). If the fluid is dirty, remove the drain plug (D) and washer (E).
4. Install the check bolt with a new washer.
5. Install the drain plug with a new washer.
6. Remove the left rear engine compartment cover (A) and the left side engine compartment cover (B).
7. Make sure you have the anti-theft codes for the audio unit and the navigation system, then write down the audio presets.
8. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, then disconnect the positive cable.
9. Remove the battery.
10. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
11. Remove the battery base.
12. Remove the filler plug (A) and washer (B).
13. Refill the fluid from the filler plug hole of the transmission, and until the transmission fluid overflows from the check bolt hole (A).
14. After the fluid stops overflowing, install the check bolt (B) with a new washer (C).
Fluid Capacity
2.2 L (2.3 US qt) at fluid change
2.5 L (2.6 US qt) at overhaul
Always use Acura Manual Transmission Fluid (MTF). Using engine oil can cause stiffer shifting because it does not contain the proper additives.
15. Install the filler plug (A) with a new washer (B).
16. Install the battery base.
17. Install the air cleaner assembly.
18. Install the battery. Clean the battery posts and cable terminals. Connect the positive cable to the battery first, then connect the negative cable, and apply multipurpose grease to prevent corrosion.
19. Install the left rear engine compartment cover and the left side engine compartment cover.
20. Enter the anti-theft codes for the audio unit and navigation system, then enter the audio presets and set the clock.
