Front Seat Belt Replacement

SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations and the precautions and procedures before doing repairs or service.

NOTE: Check the front seat belts for damage, and replace them if necessary.

Front Seat Belt
1. Make sure you have the anti-theft codes for the audio and the navigation system (if equipped), then write down the audio presets.
2. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, and wait at least 3 minutes before beginning work.
3. Slide the front seat forward fully.
4. Remove the B-pillar lower trim.




5. Driver's seat belt: Pull the lower anchor cover (A) up, and remove the lower anchor bolt (B) and double-shouldered washer (C).




6. Passenger's seat belt: Detach the front seat belt latch plate (A).
1. Pull out the recline cover cap (B) to release the hooks (C), and remove the cap by pulling it up.
2. Push the top of the lock (D) in to detach the latch plate from the lower anchor (E).

7. Remove the B-pillar upper trim and slider.




8. Remove the upper anchor bolt (A).




9. Disconnect the seat belt tensioner connector (A) and seat belt tension reducer connector (B). Remove the upper retractor mounting bolt (C) and the lower retractor bolt (D), then remove the front seat belt (E) and retractor (F).
10. If necessary, remove the front seat belt protector (G).




11. Remove the shoulder anchor adjuster (A).




12. Install the seat belt in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
- Apply liquid thread lock to the anchor bolts before reinstallation.
- Tighten the bolts by hand first, then tighten to specification with a torque wrench.
- Check that the retractor locking mechanism functions as described.
- Assemble the washers, collars, and bushings on the upper and lower anchor bolts as shown.
- If the seat belt tensioner has been activated, replace the front seat belt protector with a new one.
- Before installing the anchor bolts, make sure there are no twists or kinks in the seat belt.
- Before attaching the front seat belt lower anchor, make sure there are no twists or kinks in the belt. Insert the latch plate (A) into the lower anchor (B) and be sure the lower anchor is locked securely.
- Make sure the seat belt tensioner and tension reducer connectors are plugged in properly.
- Reconnect the negative cable to the battery.
- Check for any DTCs, and clear them using the HDS. If the DTCs will not clear, do the necessary troubleshooting.
- Enter the anti-theft codes for the audio and the navigation system (if equipped), then enter the audio presets.
- Set the clock (without navigation system).

Seat Belt Buckle

1. Make sure you have the anti-theft codes for the audio and the navigation system (if equipped), then write down the audio presets.
2. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, and wait at least 3 minutes before beginning work.
3. Remove the front seat.
4. Remove the center cover.




5. Disconnect or detach the seat belt buckle switch connector (A).




6. Release the hook (A) of the seat cushion cover on passenger's 4-way power seat. Remove the center anchor bolt (B), and detach the harness clip (C) on the driver's and passenger's seats, then remove the seat belt buckle (D).
7. Pull the seat belt buckle switch harness (E) out through the space between the seat cushion and the seat linkage or through the hole in the seat track.




8. Install the buckle in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
- Assemble the washers on the center anchor bolt as shown.
- Apply liquid thread lock to the center anchor bolt before reinstallation.
- Tighten the bolts by hand first, then tighten to specification with a torque wrench.
- Make sure the seat belt buckle switch connector is plugged in properly.
- Reconnect the negative cable to the battery.
- Enter the anti-theft codes for the audio and the navigation system (if equipped), then enter the audio presets.
- Set the clock (without navigation system).

Passenger's Seat Belt Lower Anchor

1. Make sure you have the anti-theft codes for the audio and the navigation system (if equipped), then write down the audio presets.
2. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, and wait at least 3 minutes before beginning work.
3. Remove the front seat.
4. Remove the recline cover.




5. Remove the lower anchor bolt (A), then remove the lower anchor (B).




6. Install the anchor in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
- Assemble the washers, collar, and bushing on the lower anchor bolt as shown.
- Tighten the bolts by hand first, then tighten to specification with a torque wrench.
- Make sure the seat belt buckle switch connector is plugged in properly.
- Reconnect the negative cable to the battery.
- Enter the anti-theft codes for the audio and the navigation system (if equipped), then enter the audio presets.
- Set the clock (without navigation system).
