51 11 156 Removing and installing (replacing) front bumper panel
IMPORTANT: To ensure that the bumper panel does not loose its shape (rigidity), the bumper panel on vehicles with active pedestrian protection (optical fibre system) may not be repaired.
Remove centre sealing (1).
Release expanding rivets (2) from side engine compartment lid gasket (1), right and left.
Lift up engine compartment lid side gasket (1) for each of the next operations.
Release all screws at top and bottom on bumper panel (1).
Release expanding rivets (1).
Version with night vision:
Release camera retaining screw (1) and remove.
NOTE: Change steering angle to suit current the current job item.
Release bolt (1) on wheel arch panel. Tilt wheel arch panel sideways.
Release left and right bolts (2) located behind trim.
Tightening torque 51 11 11AZ.
IMPORTANT: Bumper panel must not be pulled out sideways (risk of damage).
For version with Side View camera:
Unlock plug connection (3) on left and right and disconnect.
Disconnect the right wiring harness connector and if necessary the additional plug-in contacts and feed out cable.
Remove bumper panel straight towards front with aid of a 2nd person.
IMPORTANT: Bumper panel must not be pulled out sideways (risk of damage).
Version with night vision:
Release plug connection (2) and high-pressure nozzle line (3) on night vision camera (1) and disconnect.
Installation note:
- Beware danger of crushing.
When installing bumper panel, make sure the high-pressure nozzle line (3) has been correctly routed to Night Vision camera.
- Observe gap dimensions.
Replacement:
- Modify radiator grille
- Reinstall side ornamental grill
- Modify centre ornamental grille
- If necessary, modify fog lights
- If necessary, modify PDC
- Modify support for number plate
- Modify towing eye cover
- Modify front BMW badge
- Modify wiring harness
- If necessary, modify cover of headlight cleaning system on left and right
