Air Door Actuator / Motor: Description and Operation

This door actuator is mounted in the center of the A/C module inside the passenger compartment, and is accessible through the glove box opening. This component contains only a drive motor and a feedback variable resistor strip. The resistor strip serves to provide temperature door position information to the control center. The control center is programmed to provide a specific mode and blower motor speed for each temperature door position, based on the resistance at each position.

If the temperature door actuator is misadjusted, or if anything binds or obstructs the travel of the actuator arm, the control center senses an incorrect actuator arm position and will try to reposition the door. If the actuator fails to move, current to the actuator will be shut "OFF," and the control panel temperature will flash.

Temperature door adjustment can quickly be checked by touching 65 degrees, waiting 60 seconds then touching 85 degrees, and waiting 60 seconds. If light diodes in the panels do not flash, door adjustment is correct unless the door link is disconnected or missing.
