Brakes - Powermaster Fluid Level Checking Procedure
Bulletin 85-5-7Date Aug. '85
Ref. No. 85-288-5
SUBJECT: POWERMASTER PUMP RESERVOIR FLUID LEVEL CHECKING PROCEDURE
MODELS AFFECTED: 1985 REGAL "T" TYPE MODELS ASSEMBLED AT PLANT VIN CODE P (SFI TURBO ENGINES)
A recent review of fluid checking procedures used by Dealers, plus evaluation of Powermaster assemblies returned on the exchange program (refer to Dealer Bulletin 85-5A-5), has indicated that the pump reservoirs have been overfilled with brake fluid by Dealer technicians.
To properly check the pump reservoir fluid level, the following procedure must be used:
1. Turn ignition switch off.
2. Apply medium force to the brake pedal ten (10) times.
Step 2 is required to allow the brake fluid in the accumulator to return to the reservoir prior to checking for correct level.
3.. Clean reservoir cover of all dirt.
PUMP RESERVOIR ASSEMBLY:
4. Remove reservoir cover and check fluid level. Refer to illustration
a. Fluid level in both sides of reservoir should be between the maximum and minimum indicator marks.
b. If fluid level is low, fill to "full" mark(s) with only clean new brake fluid meeting DOT 3 specifications.
A synopsis of the above checking procedure is located on the Powermaster reservoir cover. Detailed bleed and fill procedures for the Powermaster are listed in Section 5D4 of the 1985 Buick Chassis Service Manual.
