DTC 41

Fig. 018 - Wiring Diagram for Code 41 Cam Sensor Signal. VIN 9:

CODE 41

C(3)I IGNITION CAM SENSOR SIGNAL
3.8L TURBO "E" & "G" SERIES

FUEL INJECTION (PORT)

The cam sensor is a magnetic "hall switch" type that provides the ECM with a voltage signal on the #1 cylinder compression stroke. This information is used by the ECM to properly time sequential fuel injection. When the cam signal is not received by the ECM, fuel injection is simultaneous rather than sequential.
Code 41 is set when:
a. Engine is running
b. Cam sensor signal not seen by ECM for one second.

Fig. 017 - Chart - Code 41 Cam Sensor Signal:

1. Checks to see if ECM recognizes a problem, and sets failure code.
2. The voltage recorded at this point is 12 volts supplied by the ignition module, but must be pulsed by the cam sensor to be recognized by the ECM as a signal of 2 to 9 volts. This is why the voltage is checked while crankingthe engine.
