Removal and Replacement
1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then the speedometer cable.2. Remove heated air pipe.
3. Remove turbocharger assembly, then the four top engine-to-transmission attaching bolts.
4. Remove top final drive-to-transmission bolt and two final drive-to-engine attaching bolts, then loosen retaining bracket at engine.
5. Support engine with a suitable engine holding fixture, then raise and support vehicle.
6. Disconnect shift linkage from transmission.
7. Disconnect and cap transmission cooler lines, then remove remaining final drive-to-transmission bolts.
8. Remove final drive cover, then disconnect right output shaft bearing support from engine.
9. Turn wheels to gain clearance between final drive and steering linkage, then separate final drive from transmission. Support final drive unit.
10. Remove outlet pipe/converter assembly which was disconnected when turbocharger was removed.
11. Remove starter and the two remaining transmission-to-engine attaching bolts.
12. Disconnect converter cover and position aside.
13. Remove flex plate-to-converter attaching bolts, then position transmission jack under transmission.
14. Remove both transmission mount-through bolts, then the right-mount bracket from transmission.
15. Remove left-mount brackets from both frame and transmission by pulling out inner fender liner and removing attaching bolts through access holes in frame.
16. Separate transmission from engine, then carefully lower and remove from vehicle.
17. Reverse procedure to install. Torque starter mounting bolts to 30 ft lbs., transmission mount-to-frame nut to 40 ft lbs., transmission-to-engine attaching bolts to 35 ft lbs., flywheel-to- converter bolts to 35 ft lbs., final drive- to-transmission bolts to 30 ft. lbs. and final drive-support bracket bolt to 35 ft. lbs.
