A/T - Final Drive Unit Stuck To Transmission

Bulletin: 85-7325-2

Date: Apr 1985

Ref. No..: 85-216-7325
SUBJECT: FINAL DRIVE UNIT DIFFICULT TO REMOVE FROM TRANSMISSION

MODELS AFFECTED: ALL MODELS EQUIPPED WITH THM 325-4L TRANSMISSIONS

You may experience a condition where the final drive pinion shaft may be seized to the transmission output shaft, preventing removal of the final drive from the transmission. This condition may possibly result from heat build-up due to a seized inner pinion bearing. It is also possible the governor gear may be damaged when this condition exists.

To remove the final drive when this condition exists, first remove the transmission and final drive from the car as an assembly. Disassemble the transmission and remove output shaft retaining ring. The final drive may then be removed with the output shaft.

If component separation is attempted with pry bars, the transmission case will be damaged.
