Power Steering Gear Inlet Pipe/Hose Replacement

Removal Procedure




1. Remove the power steering gear inlet hose fitting bolt (1), hose (2) and seals (3) from the power steering pump. Discard the seals.

2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle Service and Repair.

3. Remove the right front tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation Removal and Replacement.




4. Remove the power steering gear inlet and outlet hose bolt (1) and hoses (2) from the steering gear (3).




5. Open the power steering gear inlet hose clips (1). Replace the clips if necessary.

6. Remove the power steering gear inlet hose (2) from the vehicle.

7. Transfer components as necessary.

Installation Procedure

1. Discard both of the power steering gear inlet and outlet hose seals and replace with NEW only. Refer to Power Steering Gear Inlet and Outlet Hose Seal Replacement (LHU, MDK, NXC) Power Steering Gear Inlet and Outlet Hose Seal Replacement (MDK, NXC)Power Steering Gear Inlet and Outlet Hose Seal Replacement (LHU, MHK, NV7) Power Steering Gear Inlet and Outlet Hose Seal Replacement (MHK, NV7)Power Steering Gear Inlet and Outlet Hose Seal Replacement (LHU, MR6, NV7, NXC) Power Steering Gear Inlet and Outlet Hose Seal Replacement (MR6, NV7, NXC).




2. Position the power steering gear inlet hose (2) on the vehicle but do not secure.




3. Connect the power steering gear inlet and outlet hoses (2) to the steering gear (3) using the power steering gear inlet and outlet hose bolt (1). Use NEW seals.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.

4. Tighten the power steering gear inlet and outlet hose bolt (1) to 9 Nm (80 lb in).




5. Connect the power steering gear inlet hose seals (3) and hose (2) to the power steering pump using the power steering gear inlet hose fitting bolt (1). Use NEW seals.

6. Tighten the power steering gear inlet hose fitting bolt (1) to 50 Nm (37 lb ft).




7. Secure the power steering gear inlet hose (2) in the power steering gear inlet hose clips (1).

8. Install the right front tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation Removal and Replacement.

9. Fill and bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding Service and Repair.
