Transmission Fluid Bypass Valve Replacement
Removal Procedure
1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Place a suitable drain pan under the transmission.
3. Remove the bolt and disconnect the transmission oil cooler lines from the bypass valve.
4. Remove the bolt from the oil cooler line retainer on the engine block. Position the oil cooler lines aside.
5. Remove the oxygen sensor wire bracket from the bypass valve stud and position the harness aside, if equipped.
6. Remove the bypass valve retaining bolt/stud.
7. Remove the bypass valve from the transmission.
Installation Procedure
1. Install NEW seals (1) onto the transmission bypass valve.
2. Install the bypass valve to the transmission.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
3. Install the bypass valve bolt or stud, depending on the application.
Tighten the bolt or stud to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
4. Install the oxygen sensor wire harness bracket to the stud, if equipped.
5. Install the oil cooler line bracket to the engine block.
Tighten the bolt to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
6. Install the transmission oil cooler lines to the bypass valve. Install the bolt.
Tighten the bolt to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
7. Remove the drain pan and lower the vehicle.
8. Fill the transmission to the proper level and check for leaks. Refer to Transmission Fluid Checking.
