Brake Pressure Modulator Valve Replacement

Brake Pressure Modulator Valve Replacement

Removal Procedure

1. Remove the power steering fluid reservoir and bracket. Refer to Remote Power Steering Fluid Reservoir Replacement (Remote Power Steering Fluid Reservoir Replacement) .

Notice: Always connect or disconnect the wiring harness connector from the EBCM/EBTCM with the ignition switch in the OFF position. Failure to observe this precaution could result in damage to the EBCM/EBTCM.

Important:
* The ignition switch must be placed in OFF mode ONLY, before disconnecting the electronic brake control module (EBCM). If the ignition is accidently placed into ignition ON engine OFF mode, the control modules will be activated and disconnecting the module or negative battery cable will cause various DTCs to be set. Refer to Keyless Entry System Description and Operation (Description and Operation) .

* After the ignition switch is placed into OFF mode, a waiting period of 2 minutes must be observed to allow the high-speed LAN control modules to deactivate before disconnecting or connecting the module or negative battery cable. If the waiting period is not observed, one or more of the control modules may still be active; this will cause various DTCs to be set.

2. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position. Do NOT put the ignition switch into the ON with engine OFF power mode.
3. Wait for a minimum of 2 minutes to allow the high-speed LAN control modules to deactivate.
4. Disconnect the electronic brake control module EBCM harness connector.
5. Remove the brake pressure modulator valve (BPMV) pump motor ground wire.
6. Remove the brake pipes from the master cylinder to the BPMV (1, 2), noting the location.

7. Remove the brake pipes from the BPMV (1, 2) to the front brake calipers, noting the location.

8. Remove the brake pipes from the BPMV (1, 2) to the rear brake calipers, noting the location.

9. Disconnect the electrical connector from the brake fluid pressure sensor (2).
10. Remove the two insulator nuts (1).
11. Remove the EBCM/BPMV from the vehicle as one unit.

12. Remove the insulator mounting bolt from the EBCM.
13. Remove the four EBCM to BPMV bolts.
14. Separate the EBCM from the BPMV by gently pulling apart until separated.
15. Carefully remove the seal.
The seal may be reused if it is not cut or damaged.

Installation Procedure

Important: When installing a new BPMV, do NOT remove the shipping plugs from the outlets until after installation into the vehicle.

1. Clean the BPMV seal surface with alcohol using a clean rag.
2. Install the seal to the BPMV, if it is not cut or damaged.
3. Install the EBCM to the BPMV.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice (Fastener Notice) .

4. Install the 4 EBCM-to-BPMV retaining bolts. Tighten in a criss-cross pattern.

Tighten the bolts to 5 N.m (44 lb in).

5. Install the EBCM/BPMV insulator mounting bolt.

Tighten the bolt to 14 N.m (10 lb ft).

6. Install the EBCM/BPMV into the bracket on the vehicle.
7. Install the two insulator nuts (1).

Tighten the to 12 N.m (106 lb in).

8. Connect the brake fluid pressure sensor electrical connector (2).

9. Install the brake pipes from the rear brake calipers (1, 2) to the BPMV in the same location as removed.

Tighten the brake pipe fittings to 16 N.m (12 lb ft).

10. Install the brake pipes from the front brake calipers (1, 2) to the BPMV in the same location as removed.

Tighten the brake pipe fittings to 16 N.m (12 lb ft).

11. Install the brake pipes from the master cylinder (1, 2) to the BPMV in the same location as removed.

Tighten the brake pipe fittings to 16 N.m (12 lb ft).

12. Connect the BPMV pump motor ground.
13. Connect the EBCM harness connector.
Important: Both sides of the EBCM harness connector must be engaged with lever before closing.

14. Install the power steering fluid reservoir and bracket. Refer to Remote Power Steering Fluid Reservoir Replacement (Remote Power Steering Fluid Reservoir Replacement) .
15. Fill and bleed the hydraulic brake system. Refer to Master Cylinder Reservoir Filling (Master Cylinder Reservoir Filling) and Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding (Manual) (Service and Repair)Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding (Pressure) (Service and Repair) .
16. Perform the Automated Bleed Procedure. Refer to Antilock Brake System Automated Bleed Procedure (Service and Repair) .
17. Perform the Symptoms - Antilock Brake System (Symptoms - Antilock Brake System) .
