Clutch Master Cylinder: Service and Repair



Clutch Master Cylinder Replacement

Removal Procedure





Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution (Battery Disconnect Caution) .
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the left instrument panel (I/P) lower insulator panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement (Service and Repair) .
3. Remove the clutch master cylinder rod retainer (1).
4. Remove the clutch master cylinder rod (2) from the clutch pedal.
5. Remove the windshield washer solvent container. Refer to Windshield Washer Solvent Container Replacement (Service and Repair) .




6. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service Intervals) .
7. Remove the clutch actuator cylinder hose from the hose retaining clip, under the brake master cylinder.
8. Remove the clutch hose connection retaining clip (6).
9. Separate the clutch hose (5) from the clutch master cylinder connection (4).
10. Protect both hose coupling ends from dirt and damage.
11. Lower the vehicle. Leave the vehicle on the hoist.
12. Remove the clutch master cylinder reservoir (1) from the reservoir bracket (2).
13. Rotate the clutch master cylinder 45 degrees.
14. Release the clutch master cylinder (3) from the dash panel.
15. Remove the clutch master cylinder (3) and reservoir (1) from the vehicle.



Installation Procedure





1. Install the clutch master cylinder (3) and the reservoir (1) into position.
2. Install the clutch master cylinder (3) to the dash panel.

1. Orientate the clutch master cylinder at a 45 degree angle.
2. Insert the clutch master cylinder into the dash panel.
3. Rotate the master cylinder to secure.
DO NOT over-rotate the master cylinder.

3. Install the clutch master cylinder reservoir (1) to the reservoir bracket (2).
4. Install the windshield washer solvent container. Refer to Windshield Washer Solvent Container Replacement (Service and Repair) .
5. Raise the vehicle.
6. Install the clutch hose connection retaining clip (6).

Important: DO NOT rely on an audible click or a visual verification of the clutch hydraulic hose quick connect fitting connection.


7. Connect the clutch actuator cylinder hose (5) to the clutch master cylinder hose (4).
Push together the clutch hydraulic hose quick connect fittings, then pull back on the fittings to verify engagement.
8. Check the clutch hydraulic hoses for twists or kinks.
9. Install the clutch actuator cylinder hose to the hose retaining clip, under the brake master cylinder.
10. Lower the vehicle.




11. Install the clutch master cylinder rod (2) to the clutch pedal.
12. Install the clutch master cylinder rod retainer (1).
13. Install the left I/P lower insulator panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement (Service and Repair) .

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice (Fastener Notice) .

14. Connect the negative battery cable.

Tighten the negative battery cable bolt to 15 N.m (11 lb ft).

15. Program the transmitters. Refer to Transmitter Programming (N. America and Japan, except Canada) (Programming and Relearning)Transmitter Programming (Canada and Europe) (Programming and Relearning) .
16. Bleed the clutch hydraulic system. Refer to Hydraulic Clutch Bleeding (Service and Repair) .
