Drive Belt Tensioner Replacement
Removal Procedure
1. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement (Service and Repair) .
2. Remove the right side engine splash shield. Refer to Engine Splash Shield Replacement - Right Side .
3. Remove the air conditioning (A/C) lines from the A/C compressor. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement (LAT) Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement (LE5) Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement (LY7) Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement (LZ4) .
4. Remove the tensioner spring bolts (1) from the tensioner.
5. Remove the tensioner spring from the tensioner.
6. Loosen engine mount-to-bracket bolts (2).
Caution: To avoid personal injury, wear gloves and place shop towels or protective covering as cushions.
Important: Remove the accessory drive belt tensioner and lower bolt as an assembly.
7. Insert a suitable tool between the engine mount bracket and the frame in order to reposition the engine and remove the tensioner assembly.
8. Loosen the drive belt tensioner bolt (1).
9. Raise and support vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
10. Remove the drive belt tensioner (2) with drive belt tensioner bolt (1).
Installation Procedure
Important: Install the accessory drive belt tensioner and lower bolt as an assembly.
1. Install the lower tensioner bolt into the tensioner.
2. Position the tensioner assembly in place.
3. Lower the vehicle.
Caution: To avoid personal injury, wear gloves and place shop towels or protective covering as cushions.
4. Insert a suitable tool between the engine mount bracket and the frame in order to reposition the engine and install the tensioner assembly.
Caution: To avoid personal injury, only remove the tensioner shipping clip when the tensioner is properly mounted to the engine and the accessory drive belt is in place and properly routed.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice .
5. Install but do not tighten the drive belt tensioner bolt (1).
6. Position the tensioner spring to the tensioner.
7. Install the tensioner spring bolts (1) to the tensioner.
* Tighten the tensioner spring bolts to 22 N.m (16 lb ft).
* Tighten the lower tensioner bolt to 58 N.m (43 lb ft).
Important: The engine mount to bracket bolts must be hand started. Do not pry the engine mount to align the holes.
8. Install the engine mount to bracket bolts (2).
9. Tighten the engine mount to bracket bolts in the following sequence.
1. Middle
2. Rear
3. Front
Tighten the bolts to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).
10. Install A/C lines to the A/C compressor. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement (LAT) Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement (LE5) Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement (LY7) Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement (LZ4) .
11. Install the right side engine splash shield. Refer to Engine Splash Shield Replacement - Right Side .
12. Install the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement (Service and Repair) .
13. Using a 6 point socket on the hex boss on the drive belt tensioner, release the tension and remove the shipping clip by hand. Discard the clip.
