DTC Descriptors
DTC P1A5E 00
- Ignition RUN/Crank Switch Circuit Low Voltage
DTC P1A5F 00
- Ignition RUN/Crank Switch Circuit High Voltage
Diagnostic Fault Information
Circuit/System Description
The hybrid powertrain control module 2 (HPCM2) sends the RUN/Crank power mode status in a serial data message to the battery energy control module (BECM). The body control module powers up the RUN/Crank circuit to the hybrid control powertrain control module 2 and the battery energy control module when the vehicle is in the RUN/Crank power mode.
Conditions for Running the DTC
P1A5F 00
* Vehicle power mode is OFF
* BECM is awake
* System voltage greater than 9 V
P1A5E 00
* Vehicle power mode is not in RUN
* BECM is awake
* System voltage greater than 9 V
Conditions for Setting the DTC
P1A5F 00
RUN/Crank input is not active and not below 5 V.
P1A5E 00
RUN/Crank input is active and not above 5 V.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
DTC's P1A5E and P1A5F are type B DTC's.
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
DTC's P1A5E and P1A5F are type B DTC's.
Diagnostic Aids
* A short to voltage in the RUN/Crank control circuit will keep the vehicle bus awake, which can drain the vehicle's battery.
* A short to ground in the extension of this circuit through the body control module can back feed to the keyless entry control module. Check for a short to ground on the RUN/Crank circuit on the other side of the RUN/Crank pass thru, in the body control module, before replacing the body control module.

Circuit/System Testing
1. Verify DTC B144B is not set.
• If the DTC is set, refer to DTC B144B B144B.
2. Disconnect the X2 harness connector at the A4 hybrid battery pack.
3. Ignition OFF, test for B+ between the ignition circuit terminal 4 and ground.
• If B+ appears, test the ignition circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K114B hybrid powertrain control module 2.
4. Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the ignition circuit terminal 4 and ground.
• If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the ignition circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K114B hybrid powertrain control module 2.
5. If all circuits test normal, replace the K16 battery energy control module.
Repair Instructions
Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification Verification Tests after completing the diagnostic procedure.
