DTC Descriptors
DTC P2422
- Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Vent Solenoid Valve Stuck Closed

Circuit/System Description

P2422

The vent solenoid is stuck closed. If the EVAP leak detection pump pressure sensor, gauge, reading indicates a vacuum that is below the reference vacuum after a short period of time, then a pass is reported for P2422.

If the EVAP leak detection pump pressure sensor, gauge, reading indicates a vacuum that is near or above the reference vacuum after a short period of time, then a fail will be reported for P2422. The vent solenoid is closed and the diagnostic is complete.

If P2422 fails, then the EVAP diagnostic leak detection test sequence is complete.

Conditions for Running the DTC

Propulsion System Not Active

Note: There are three possible time windows for this test to run. Up to that point and through this time period the propulsion system must not be active. These time windows are: 5.0, 7.0 or 9.5 hours.

* P043E, P043F, P0451, P1458, P145C, P145D, P145E, P2421, P2422 and P2450 are not set.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

P2422

Sufficient pressure or vacuum must exist in the fuel tank system.

* Then, when the FTP sensor indicates a pressure greater than 0.697 kPa (0.1 PSI) or a vacuum less than -0.697 kPa (-0.1 PSI).
* The vent solenoid is commanded open.
* If the change in the FTP sensor reading is less than 1 kPa (0.15 PSI) after 10 s then the vent solenoid is stuck closed and the DTC fails.

Or

No pressure or vacuum exists in the fuel tank system

* Then, when the FTP sensor indicates a pressure less than 0.697 kPa (0.1 PSI) or a vacuum greater than -0.697 kPa (-0.1 PSI).
* The vent solenoid is commanded open.
* The EVAP leak detection pump is commanded on
* If the 0.020" reference orifice vacuum measurement minus the EVAP leak detection pump sensor, gauge, vacuum reading is less than 0.3 kPa (0.04 PSI) after 5 s then the vent solenoid is stuck closed and the DTC fails.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

DTCs P2422 is a Type B DTCs.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

DTCs P2422 is a Type B DTCs.

Circuit/System Verification

1. Command the EVAP vent solenoid valve ON and OFF with the scan tool. An audible click should be heard when changing between the commanded states.
2. Service Mode active, observe the scan tool EVAP vent solenoid valve control circuit test status parameters. The circuit test status parameters should display OK or Not Run.
3. Ignition ON, engine running, observe the DTC information with a scan tool. DTC P0449, P0498, or P0499 should not set.
4. Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC to verify the DTC does not reset. You may also operate the vehicle within the conditions that you observed from the Freeze Frame/Failure Records data.

Circuit/System Testing

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the Q13 evaporative emission system vent solenoid valve.
2. Verify that a test lamp illuminates between the voltage supply circuit terminal 2 and ground.

If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the voltage supply circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal and the voltage supply circuit fuse is not open, test or replace the Q13 evaporative emission system vent solenoid valve.

3. Connect a test lamp between the voltage supply circuit terminal 2 and the control circuit terminal 1.
4. Command the EVAP leak detection pump ON and OFF with a scan tool. The test lamp should respond to the command.

If the test lamp is always ON, test the control circuit for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K20 engine control module.
If the test lamp is always OFF, test the control circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K20 engine control module.

5. If all circuits test normal, replace the Q13 evaporative emission system vent solenoid valve.
