Power Steering Pump Replacement

Removal Procedure

1. Place drain pans under the vehicle.

2. Remove as much power steering fluid from the reservoir as possible.

3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle Service and Repair.

4. Remove the right front tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation Service and Repair.

5. Disconnect the drive belt from the power steering pump pulley only. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement Service and Repair.

6. Disconnect the power steering gear inlet hose from the power steering pump. Refer to Power Steering Gear Inlet Pipe/Hose Replacement Power Steering Gear Inlet Pipe/Hose Replacement.





7. Remove the steering gear inlet hose O-ring seal (3).

Discard the seal.

8. Disconnect the power steering fluid cooling pipe (5) from the power steering pump (2).

9. Disconnect the power steering fluid reservoir hose (1) from the power steering pump.





10. Remove the bolt (1) from the left side of the power steering pump (2).





Note:
The right side power steering pump bolts go through the holes in the right side of the bracket and fasten to the holes in the pump.

11. Remove the 2 bolts (1, 2) from the right side of the power steering pump (3).





12. Remove the power steering pump (2) through the right wheel opening.

13. Transfer components as necessary.

Installation Procedure





1. Position the power steering pump (2) in the vehicle through the right wheel opening.

2. Align the bolt holes in the power steering pump with the bolt holes in the bracket (1).





Caution:
Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.

3. Install the 2 bolts (1, 2) to the right side of the power steering pump (3) and tighten to 22 Nm (16 lb ft).





4. Install the bolt (1) to the left side of the power steering pump (2) and tighten to 22 Nm (16 lb ft).





Caution:
Refer to Installing Hoses without Twists or Bends Caution Installing Hoses without Twists or Bends Caution.

5. Connect the power steering fluid reservoir hose (1) to the power steering pump (2).

6. Connect the power steering fluid cooling pipe (5) to the power steering pump.

7. Install a NEW power steering gear inlet hose O-ring seal (3).

8. Connect the power steering gear inlet hose to the steering gear. Refer to Power Steering Gear Inlet Pipe/Hose Replacement Power Steering Gear Inlet Pipe/Hose Replacement.

9. Connect the drive belt to the power steering pump pulley. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement Service and Repair.

10. Install the right front tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation Service and Repair.

11. Lower the vehicle.

12. Fill and bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding Service and Repair.

13. Clean any excess power steering fluid from the vehicle.

14. Remove the drain pans.
