Intake Manifold: Service and Repair

Fig. 1 Fuel vapor canister harness:

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove air cleaner and distributor cap.
3. Raise and support vehicle.
4. Remove middle right bell housing-to-engine block attaching bolt, then move wiring harness aside.
5. Remove distributor hold down nut and clamp, then disconnect primary wires from coil.
6. Remove fuel pump attaching bolts and position pump aside, then lower vehicle.
7. Disconnect accelerator cable, fuel inlet line and any necessary wires and vacuum lines.
8. Remove carburetor, then drain cooling system.
9. Disconnect fuel vapor canister harness lines, Fig. 1.
10. Disconnect hoses and wires from manifold.
11. Remove intake manifold attaching bolts, then the manifold.
12. Reverse procedure to install. Clean mating surface and install a new gasket. Torque bolts to specifications.
