Removal
For additional information see Notes, Warnings, and Hints. Fundamentals and BasicsWheel Cylinder:
1. Raise and support vehicle.
2. Remove wheel and tire assembly.
3. Remove brake drum.
5. Remove dirt and foreign material around wheel cylinder inlet and pilot.
6. Disconnect hydraulic line at wheel cylinder.
CAUTION: Do not pull metal line away from cylinder, as this may kink or bend line. Line will separate from cylinder when cylinder is moved away from brake backing plate.
Removing Wheel Cylinder Retainer:
7. Remove wheel cylinder retainer using two awls or pins (1/8 inch diameter or less).
8. Insert awls or pins into access slots between wheel cylinder pilot and retainer locking tabs. (Tool J-20839 may be used to remove retainer.)
9. Bend both tabs away simultaneously.
10. Remove wheel cylinder.
