GLOW PLUG RELAY

REPLACEMENT

The relay is mounted on the back of the left cab support.

vRemove or Disconnect (Figure 10)

1. Negative battery cable.
2. Two nuts on the cover of the relay box.
3. Cover.
^ Mark the single wire connectors and the relay itself with colored markers to help identify them (figure 6).
4. Three connectors to the relay.
5. Nut holding the relay to the stud on the mounting bracket.
6. Relay.

vInstall or Connect (Figures 6 and 10)

1. Relay to the stud on the mounting bracket.
2. Nut onto the stud.
3. Three connectors to the relay.
4. Cover onto the relay box.
5. Two nuts onto the cover.
6. Negative battery cable.

GLOW PLUG REPLACEMENT

vRemove or Disconnect (Figure 4)

1. Negative battery cable.
2. Connector at the bus bar.
^ Loosen the nuts on the glow plugs.
3. Bus bar.
4. Glow plugs.

vInstall or Connect (Figure 4)

1. Glow plugs.


v Tighten

^ Plugs to 23 N-m (18 ft.lbs.).
2. Bus bar.
3. Nuts onto the glow plugs and tighten.
4. Connector at the bus bar.
5. Negative battery cable.

GLOW PLUG TIMER

REPLACEMENT

vRemove or Disconnect (Figure 11)

1. Negative battery cable.
2. Heater hose below the center of the instrument panel.
^ Slide each end out.
3. Two screws holding the timer to the back of the metal bracket.
4. Timer from behind the bracket.
5. Connector from the timer.
6. Timer from the vehicle.


vInstall or Connect (Figure 11)

1. Connector to the timer.
2. Timer to the back of the bracket with two screws.
3. Heater hose.
4. Negative battery cable.

THERMAL SWITCH REPLACEMENT

vRemove or Disconnect (Figure 3)

^ Tilt the cab.

CAUTION: To avoid the danger of being burned, the radiator cap should not be removed while the engine is at normal operating temperature. The cooling system will blow out scalding fluid and steam under pressure if the cap is removed while the engine and radiator are still hot. If it is necessary to remove the cap while the engine is hot, first relieve the pressure in the system by turning the radiator cap counterclockwise to the first stop, using caution not to scald hands (do not press down while rotating). Wait until the pressure has been relieved as indicated by a hissing sound. Push down on the cap and turn counterclockwise to remove the cap.

1. Radiator cap.
2. Coolant from the radiator until the fluid level is below the thermal switch.
3. Switch connector
4. Connector wire from the clip.
5. Switch from the thermostat housing by unscrewing it.

vInstall or Connect (Figure 3)

^ Coat the thermal switch threads with thread sealant.
1. Switch into the thermostat housing.
2. Connector wire into the retaining clip.
3. Switch connector.
4. Coolant.
5. Radiator cap to the radiator and tighten it.
^ Lower the cab.
