With Special Tool J-33047
Idle Air Flow:
NOTE: The Throttle Stop Screw, which is used in regulating minimum idle speed of the vehicle, is adjusted at the factory. This adjustment should be performed only when the throttle body has been replaced. Engine should be at normal operating temperature before making adjustment.
MINIMUM AIR RATE ADJUSTMENT
- Remove air cleaner and air cleaner to Throttle Body Injection (TBI) gasket. Plug vacuum port on TBI unit for Thermactor Air.
- Remove Throttle Valve (TV) cable from throttle control bracket to allow access to minimum air adjustment screw.
Removing Plug:
NOTE: Throttle Stop Screw plug may need to be removed.
- Connect a tachometer to engine.
- Disconnect Idle Air Control (IAC) valve electrical connector.
- Start engine, place transmission in Park (Neutral for manual transmissions), and allow engine rpm to stabilize.
Installing J-33047:
- Install tool J-33047 in idle air passage of throttle body. Be certain that tool seats fully in passage and no air leaks exist.
- Using appropriate tool (number 20 Torx (R) Bit), turn throttle stop screw until engine rpm is:
- Automatic Transmission, 475-525 rpm.
- Manual Transmission, 750-800 rpm.
- Stop engine and remove tool J-33047 from throttle body.
- Install TV cable into throttle control bracket.
- Install IAC connector.
- Use silicone sealant or equivalent to cover throttle stop screw.
- Install air cleaner gasket and air cleaner assembly.
