Owner Letter Information
(Notification Used By Chevrolet motor Division)Dear Chevrolet Owner:
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
REASON FOR THIS RECALL
General Motors has determined that certain 1988 Chevrolet C/K 20 series pickup trucks equipped with 6.2 liter diesel engines and THM 700-R4 transmissions fail to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 105 "Hydraulic Brake Systems". The rear wheel anti-lock (RWAL) brake feature on these trucks could unintentionally become disabled by an electrical malfunction. The front and rear brakes will continue to work properly, but the brake warning indicator lamp on the instrument panel will fail to light and inform the driver of the RWAL disablement. Failure to light the brake warning indicator lamp is a nonconformance to FMVSS 105 requirements.
