Subject: INCREASED ROAD SPLASH IN ENGINE COMPARTMENT

Model and Year: 1983-91 G VANS WITH 6.2L DIESEL ENGINE

Some 1983 - 1991 G1, G2, and G3 vehicles with 6.2L diesel engines may experience increased splashing of rain water into the engine compartment in the vicinity of the alternator. In an effort to improve this condition and prevent the contamination of underhood components a revised right wheel well splash shield has been released for vehicles equipped with the 6.2L diesel engine.

This new splash shield (P/N 15685862) is installed in the front of the right wheel well opening with four plastic rivets (P/N 14063981).

SERVICE PROCEDURE:

1. Raise the front end of the vehicle with a floor jack to obtain sufficient clearance from the tire. It is not necessary to remove the tire.

2. Position the splash shield (P/N 15685862) in the wheel well opening as shown in Figure 1. Using the splash shield as a template, mark the position of the four attaching holes.

3. Using a 1/4 inch drill bit, drill the four attaching holes in the fender well.

4. Install the splash shield with the four retaining rivets (P/N 14063981) or equivalent.
