Exhaust Manifold: Service and Repair

Fig. 4 Exhaust Manifold Installation & Bolt Torque Sequence:

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Release A/C compressor belt tension, remove compressor from bracket and secure aside, then remove rear adjusting bracket.
3. Raise and support vehicle, disconnect exhaust pipe from manifold, then lower vehicle.
4. Remove air cleaner and disconnect electrical connector to oxygen sensor.
5. Remove exhaust manifold bolts and the manifold.
6. Position new gasket and manifold on cylinder head, then install bolts hand tight.
7. Tighten exhaust manifold bolts to specifications in sequence shown in Fig. 4.
8. Reverse remaining procedure to complete installation.
