1. Remove necessary front end components.
2. Drain cooling system, then remove radiator, fan shroud, fan and pulley.
3. Remove air cleaner and fuel pump.
4. Remove rocker arm cover, then the distributor assembly.
5. Remove pushrod cover, then the hydraulic valve lifters.
6. Remove torsional damper, then the timing case cover.
7. Align timing marks, Fig. 25, then remove thrust plate bolts and the camshaft. Support camshaft during removal to prevent damage to bearings. On some models, it may be necessary to disconnect front engine mounts and raise engine slightly to provide clearance for camshaft removal.
8. Reverse procedure to install. Tighten thrust plate bolts to specification. During installation, coat cam lobes and lifters with suitable break-in lubricant. If the camshaft is replaced, it is recommended that the lifters be replaced also. If components are reused, they should be installed in original positions.
