Front Steering Knuckle: Service and Repair

Knuckle And Hub/Rotor Components:







REMOVE
1. Raise and support vehicle.
2. Remove locking hub. See Locking Hub / Service and Repair.
3. Remove disc brake caliper and position aside. Do not allow caliper to hang from brake hose.
4. Remove wheel bearing outer locknut, lock ring and wheel bearing inner adjusting nut.
5. Remove hub and disc assembly.
6. Nuts and backing plate.
7. Nuts and caliper bracket.

Removing The Spindle:







8. Spindle from the steering knuckle.
^ Tap the end of the spindle with a plastic or rubber mallet to break it loose from the steering knuckle

Removing The Cap And Steering Arm Fasteners:







9. Upper cap and/or steering arm.
^ For the cap, remove the bolts and washers alternately as the compression spring will force the cap up.
^ For the steering arm, remove the nuts alternately as the compression spring will force the steering arm up.

10. Gasket and compression spring
11. Bolts and washers.

Removing The Lower Bearing Cap And King Pin:






12. Lower bearing cap and king pin.
13. Upper king pin bushing.
^ Pull it out through the steering knuckle.

14. Steering knuckle from the axle yoke.

INSTALL
1. Reverse procedure to install. Adjust wheel bearings. See Wheel Bearing / Adjustments.
