Owner Letter
Dear Chevrolet Owner: October 24, 1990This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
General Motors has determined that certain 1989-90 C/K 1500-3500 Series Extended Cab Trucks contain incorrect instructions on how to properly adjust the rear seat lap-shoulder belts. Since the instructions provided do not describe "proper use" of the seat belt assembly, they fail to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 209, "Seat Belt Assemblies".
To correct this condition, we have enclosed an owner's manual insert containing the correct rear lap-shoulder belt instructions. The information in this insert replaces the "LAP-SHOULDER BELTS" information found on pages 1-9 and 1-11 of the 1989 owner's manual or pages 1-10 through 1-12 of the 1990 owner's manual. Please read the enclosed insert carefully before inserting it in your owner's manual between pages 1-8 and 1-9 (1989 or 1990 manuals). The owner's manual and enclosed insert should be furnished to any subsequent owners so that they will have the correct instructions. After placing the insert in your owner's manual, or if you have sold or traded your truck, please complete the enclosed postage paid reply card and return it to us.
If you are not satisfied with the action we have taken to remedy this noncompliance, you may submit a complaint to the Administrator, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 400 Seventh Street, S.W., Washington, D.C. 20590 or call 1-800-424-9393 (Washington D.C. residents use 366-0123).
We are sorry to cause you this inconvenience; however, we have taken this action in the interest of your continued satisfaction with our products.
