Date: NOV., 1988
Subject: HOOD PAINT FLAKING

Model and Year: 1989 C/K 1,2,3
TO: ALL CHEVROLET DEALERS

Hood paint flaking or lack of adhesion may be experienced on some 1989 C/K trucks within the breakpoints listed. This condition was caused by an improper galvanizing process. The flaking condition to bare metal will be most noticeable on the edges of the hood.

Hoods that were built within the suspected time period may be identified by the number 39 stamped in the right edge approximately 16 inches from the front of the hood.

If paint flaking occurs on a hood with a number 39 stamped in the right edge and the VIN is within the breakpoints listed, the hood must be replaced and refinished. Do not attempt to refinish the original hood.

VINs within the following breakpoints may be involved:

Pontiac East 1GCJC34K0KE117885 1GCFC24H9KE122469
Fort Wayne 1GCDC14K2KZ124201 1GCDC14K1KZ127235
