Front Disc Brakes - Squeal
File In Section: 05 - BrakesBulletin No.: 00-05-23-003
Date: May, 2000
TECHNICAL
Subject:
Front Disc Brake Squeal (Install New Front Disc Brake Pads)
Models:
2000 Chevrolet and GMC G30 Vans
Built Prior to May 2, 2000
Condition
Some customers may comment about a squealing type noise coming from the front brakes during a light to moderate brake apply and appears to be more prevalent at high ambient temperatures.
Cause
The squealing noise may be the result of a "slip/stick" condition between the front brake pads and rotors that could cause a high frequency vibration.
Correction
On vehicles built prior to May 2, 2000, this condition can be minimized by replacing the existing front brake pads with new pads contained in service kits, P/N's 18045156 & 18045157, that have a new lining material. Refer to the Disc Brakes sub-section in the appropriate Service Manual for replacement procedures.
Important:
Guidelines provided in Corporate Bulletin Number 23-50-05B must be followed to insure proper cleaning, lubricating and assembling of brake and related components.
