Condition

Some customers may comment on a tick type noise coming from the engine while the engine is running during cold or hot operation. The condition will be most noticeable on vehicles that have been stored for extended periods of time without running the engine or on vehicles following a repair to the valve lifters and camshafts.

Cause

This condition may be caused by oil drain down. Air may get trapped in the valve lifters, not allowing for proper lifter adjustment. This condition may also be referred to as "lifter bleed down".

Correction

Replace the valve lifters with P/N 91177364. Refer to the Lifter Replacement procedure in the Engine Mechanical sub-section of the service manual.
