Power Steering Pump Replacement
Removal ProcedureNotice: Refer to Power Steering Hose Disconnected Notice in Cautions and Notices.
Important: Thoroughly clean the pump housing before removing the hose and the pipe.
Important: Place a drain pan under the power steering pump in order to catch any escaping fluid.
1. Loosen the hose clamp and remove the power steering reservoir outlet hose (4) from the power steering pump.
2. Remove the reservoir (6) with the outlet hose (4) from the vehicle. Refer to Remote Power Steering Fluid Reservoir Replacement (1.6L) or Remote Power Steering Fluid Reservoir Replacement (2.0L).
3. Remove the fitting from the power steering pump and from the power steering gear inlet hose.
4. Remove the 2 gaskets and the power steering gear inlet hose from the pump.
5. Disconnect the connector from the power steering pressure switch.
6. Remove the power steering pump drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement (Cooling Fan) or Drive Belt Replacement (Accessory) in Engine.
7. Remove the 2 bolts from the power steering pump.
8. Remove the power steering pump from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the power steering pump to the vehicle.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
2. Secure the power steering pump to the bracket with the 2 bolts.
- Tighten the bolts to 25 Nm (18.5 ft. lbs.).
3. Connect the connector to the power steering pressure switch.
Notice: Refer to Installing Hoses Without Twists or Bends Notice in Cautions and Notices.
4. Install the power steering gear inlet hose to the power steering pump.
5. Secure the power steering gear inlet hose to the pump with the 2 gaskets and the fitting.
- Tighten the fitting to 60 Nm (43.5 ft. lbs.).
6. Install the reservoir (3) with the outlet hose (4) to the vehicle. Refer to Remote Power Steering Fluid Reservoir Replacement (1.6L) or Remote Power Steering Fluid Reservoir Replacement (2.OL).
7. Install the power steering reservoir outlet hose (4) to the power steering pump. Secure the hose to the pump with the hose clamp.
8. Install the power steering pump drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement (Cooling Fan) or Drive Belt Replacement (Accessory) in Engine.
Notice: Refer to Using Proper Power Steering Fluid When Adding Notice in Cautions and Notices.
9. Add power steering fluid to the reservoir. Refer to Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid.

10. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Bleeding Power Steering System.
