Lower Steering Shaft - Installation
1. Ensure the steering wheel and the front tires and wheels have not moved since the removal of the lower steering shaft.2. If replacing the lower steering shaft, place match marks on the new lower steering shaft in the same positions as on the old lower steering shaft.
3. Align the match marks (4,5) with the opening (3) in the lower steering shaft universal joint (2). Install lower steering shaft to the pinion shaft.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
4. Secure the lower steering shaft to the pinion shaft with the lower bolt (4).
- Tighten the bolt to 25 Nm (18.0 ft. lbs.).
5. Align the match marks on the following components:
- The lower steering shaft
- The steering shaft coupling (1)
- The steering column shaft (3)
6. Loosen the bolt (3) on the steering column side of the steering shaft coupling and move the steering shaft coupling down over the lower steering shaft.
7. Secure the steering shaft coupling to the lower steering shaft with the bolt (1). Secure the steering shaft coupling to the steering column shaft with the bolt (3).
- Tighten the 2 steering shaft coupling bolts to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).
