Turn Signal Cancel Cam and Steering Shaft Upper Bearing Spring Replacement

Tools Required
^ J 38364 Lock Plate Compressor
^ J 42137 Steering Column Lock Plate Compressor Adapter

Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to SIR Caution.

1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling.

Important: Let the multifunction switch/SIR coil assembly hang freely after removal.

2. Remove the multifunction switch/SIR coil assembly.




3. Remove the shear bolt from the lock housing assembly.
4. Remove the lock housing assembly from the steering column.




5. Remove and discard the bearing retainer using J 38364 and J 42137.




6. Remove the following parts from the steering shaft assembly:
1. The spring retainer
2. The upper bearing spring
3. The inner race seat

Installation Procedure




1. Install the following parts onto the steering shaft assembly:
1. The inner race seat
2. The upper bearing spring
3. The spring retainer




2. Install the new bearing retainer onto the steering shaft assembly using J 38364 and J 42137.
Firmly seat the bearing retainer into the groove on the steering shaft assembly.
3. Install the lock housing assembly.




4. Install the shear bolt into the ignition switch and lock housing assembly.

Tighten until bolt head breaks off.

6. Install the multifunction switch/SIR coil assembly.
7. Enable the inflatable restraint steering wheel module.
