Diagnostic Fault Information
Circuit/System Description
The yaw rate and the lateral accelerometer sensors are combined into one component. The vehicle stability enhancement system uses the lateral accelerometer input when calculating the desired yaw rate. The yaw/lateral accelerometer sensor communicates with the EBCM serial data circuits.
Conditions for Running the DTC
Ignition ON
Conditions for Setting the DTC
* The yaw/lateral accelerometer sensor fails an internal self test.
* The yaw/lateral accelerometer sensor is loose or installed incorrectly.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
* A driver information center message and/or a warning indicator may be displayed.
* The EBCM disables the antilock brake system (ABS), the traction control system and the vehicle stability enhancement system for the duration of the ignition cycle.
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
* The condition for the DTC is no longer present.
* The EBCM clears the history DTC when a current DTC is not detected in 40 consecutive drive cycles.

Circuit/System Testing
1. Verify that DTC U1500, U2142 00, U2143 00 is not set.
• If DTC is set, refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List - Vehicle Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List - Vehicle.
2. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the yaw/lateral accelerometer sensor.
3. Ignition OFF, key out of the ignition, all vehicle systems OFF, this may take up to 2 minutes, test for less than 10 ohms between the low reference circuit terminal 1 and ground.
• If greater than the specified range, test the low reference circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the EBCM.
4. Ignition ON, test for B+ between the ignition voltage circuit terminal 4 and ground.
• If not within the specified range, test the ignition voltage circuit for a short to ground or open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the EBCM.
5. If all circuits test normal, replace the yaw/lateral accelerometer sensor and verify DTC does not reset. If the DTC resets, replace the EBCM.
Repair Instructions
