Input Shaft Seal Replacement

Special Tools
* J 3289-20 Holding Fixture
* J 23907 Slide Hammer with Bearing Adapter
* J 45278 Seal Remover
* J 45759 Assembly Fixture
* J 45934 Input Seal Installer

Removal Procedure

1. Remove the transfer case assembly. Refer to Transfer Case Assembly Replacement Transfer Case Assembly Replacement.




2. Install the J 45759 to the transfer case, using 4 suitable bolts.




3. Mount the J 3289-20 (1) to a sturdy workbench.
4. Install the J 45759 (2), with the transfer case, into the J 3289-20 (1) and secure with the pivot pin.





Caution: Refer to Transfer Case Seal Removal Caution Service Precautions.

Note:
* There is no shoulder to prevent the seal from going into the transfer case.
* Turn, and hold the J 45278 (2) under the seal for removal.

5. Using the J 23907 (1) and J 45278 (2) remove the input shaft seal from the transfer case.
Discard the seal.

Installation Procedure




1. Using the J 45934 and a hammer, install the NEW input shaft seal into the transfer case.
The J 45934 will install the seal to the proper depth.




2. Remove the J 45759 (2) from the transfer case.
3. Install the transfer case assembly. Refer to Transfer Case Assembly Replacement Transfer Case Assembly Replacement.
