Parking Brake Rear Cable Replacement - Right Side
Removal Procedure
1. Ensure the park brake is released.
2. Disable the park brake cable automatic adjuster. Refer to Parking Brake Cable Adjuster Disabling Parking Brake Cable Adjuster Disabling.
3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle Service and Repair.
4. Disconnect the right rear park brake cable (2) from the equalizer on the intermediate park brake cable (1).
5. Remove the park brake cable from the mounting bracket by depressing the locking tabs.
6. Release the park brake cable from the park brake cable guides on the vehicle frame.
7. Remove the bolt from the rear axle clip (2500 series).
8. Release the park brake cable from the differential clip (2500 series).
9. Remove the park brake cable from the track bar clips (1500 series).
10. Remove the park brake cable from the actuator lever.
11. Remove the cable from the backing plate by depressing the locking tabs.
12. Remove the cable from the retaining bracket.
13. Remove the park brake cable.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the park brake cable taking care to correctly route the cable through the guides and the body mounts.
2. Install the park brake cable to the backing plate by pressing the cable into place until the tabs lock into place.
3. Install the cable to the actuator lever.
4. Install the park brake cable to the track bar and secure in place with the clips. Verify the clips are installed between the locators on the track bar (1500 series).
5. Position the park brake cable to the cable guides on the vehicle frame.
6. Install the park brake cable to the mounting bracket until the tabs lock into place.
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.
7. Install the bolt to the rear axle cable clip (2500 series) and tighten to 22 Nm (16 lb ft).
Note: After installing the cable to the rear axle holding clip, verify the clip is securely retaining the cable. If not, crimp the clip by hand taking care not to pinch or kink the cable.
8. Install the cable to the differential clip (2500 series).
9. Connect the right rear park brake cable (2) to the intermediate park brake cable (1) equalizer.
10. Lower the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle Service and Repair.
11. Enable the park brake cable automatic adjuster. Refer to Parking Brake Cable Adjuster Enabling Parking Brake Cable Adjuster Enabling.
12. Adjust the park brake. Refer to Parking Brake Adjustment (1500 Without JNC) Adjustments.
