Front Drive Axle Inner Shaft Seal Replacement - Right Side

Special Tools

* J-2619-01 - Slide Hammer

* J-29369-1 - Bushing and Bearing Remover

* J-42738 - Seal Installer

Removal Procedure

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle Service and Repair.

2. Drain the front differential carrier assembly. Refer to Front Axle Lubricant Replacement Front Drive Axle.

3. Remove the front drive axle inner shaft and housing assembly. Refer to Front Drive Axle Inner Shaft and Inner Shaft Housing Replacement Front Drive Axle Inner Shaft and Inner Shaft Housing Replacement.




4. Remove the front drive axle inner shaft (1) from the inner shaft housing.

5. Mount the inner shaft housing in a vise.




6. Assemble the J-2619-01 - Slide Hammer (1) and the J-29369-1 - Bushing and Bearing Remover (2) to the inner shaft seal.




7. Using the J-2619-01 - Slide Hammer with the J-29369-1 - Bushing and Bearing Remover, remove the inner shaft seal (1) from the inner shaft housing.

8. Clean the inner shaft housing to differential housing sealing surface of any debris, lubricant, or sealer.

Installation Procedure




1. Using the J-42738 - Seal Installer (1), install the inner shaft seal.

2. Apply sealant to the inner shaft housing to differential housing sealing surface. Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers Fluid Type Specifications.





Note: Do not cut or nick the inner shaft seal during installation of the inner shaft.

3. Carefully guide the front drive axle inner shaft (1) past the inner shaft seal and install the front drive axle inner shaft into the inner shaft housing.

4. Install the front drive axle inner shaft and housing assembly. Refer to Front Drive Axle Inner Shaft and Inner Shaft Housing Replacement Front Drive Axle Inner Shaft and Inner Shaft Housing Replacement.

5. Fill the front differential carrier assembly. Refer to Front Axle Lubricant Replacement Front Drive Axle.
