Water Pump: Service and Repair

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Drain cooling system, and remove upper radiator hose.
3. Remove A/C compressor from mounting brackets and position aside with refrigerant lines attached, if equipped.
4. Remove alternator.
5. Disconnect lower radiator hose, bypass hose. Remove four water pump to engine attaching screws and water pump, Figs. 53 and 54.
6. Reverse procedure to install.

7. Disconnect coolant temperature sensor electrical connector, then remove sensor.

Note: Manufacturer recommends using a mixture of 50% antifreeze and 50% water.

8. Refill cooling system with sensor removed, until mixture reaches hole, then install and tighten sensor. Continue to fill until system is full.
