NOTE:
THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO VEHICLES BUILT PRIOR TO JANUARY 15, 1998 (MDH 0115XX).

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Exhaust drone and/or vibration felt at 1600-2000 engine RPM under a load.

DIAGNOSIS:
If a drone can be felt at 1600-2000 engine RPM and/or vibration can be felt in the accelerator pedal or floor pan, check that the exhaust system is not grounded to the body or suspension. If exhaust system is free in the hangers perform the Repair Procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

This bulletin involves replacing the left side front exhaust pipe with revised parts and removing the right side front exhaust pipe support bracket.

1. Replace the left front exhaust pipe/catalytic converter as described on page 11-7 of the 1998 Concorde/Intrepid Service Manual (Publication No. 81-270-8140).

NOTE:
THE REVISED LEFT FRONT EXHAUST PIPE/CATALYTIC CONVERTER CONTAINS A FLEXIBLE JOINT AND DOES NOT USE THE FRONT EXISTING EXHAUST PIPE SUPPORT.

NOTE:
A NEW V-BAND EXHAUST MANIFOLD CLAMP, PIN 04581013AC, MUST BE USED WHEN INSTALLING THE REVISED EXHAUST PIPE.





2. Remove and discard the right front exhaust pipe support bracket by removing the nut securing the bracket to the transmission bracket and with a twisting motion pull the bracket oft the exhaust pipe support rod (Figure 1).
