Positive Battery Terminal Corrosion

OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves replacing the positive battery terminal/cable assembly.

MODELS:

1998 (LH) Concorde/Intrepid

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The positive battery cable terminal may corrode because of exposure to road salt/moisture.

DIAGNOSIS:
Inspect the positive battery cable terminal for corrosion at the battery. After cleaning the terminal and battery inspect the terminal for metal deterioration. If deterioration of the terminal is present perform the Repair Procedure.

AR(1) 05016667AA Cable, Positive Battery, 2.7L Engine
AR(1) 05016668AA Cable, Positive Battery, 3.2/3.5L Engine
1 04856511 Tube, Heat Shrink

REPAIR PROCEDURE:
THIS REPAIR IS COMPATIBLE WITH DAIMLERCHRYSLER'S MOBILE SERVICE PROGRAM AND DOES NOT REQUIRE HOISTS OR OTHER FULL SERVICE FACILITY SPECIAL EQUIPMENT.

1. Remove and isolate the negative battery cable from the remote terminal located on the shock tower.

2. Remove the air cleaner housing.

3. Remove the positive battery cable terminal from the battery.

4. Remove the positive battery cable from the remote post base terminal.





5. Cut generator lead at fuse link splice (Figure 1)

6. Remove existing positive battery cable assembly.

7. Strip 1/2 inch of insulation from the generator wire and slide a piece of heat shrink tube over wire.

8. Using rosin core solder, solder the new positive battery cable fuse link to the generator wire.

9. Position the shrink tubing over the splice making sure all exposed wire conductors are covered.

10. Shrink the heat shrink tube using a heat gun.

11. Install the positive battery cable to the remote post terminal and battery.

12. Install the air cleaner housing.

13. Install the negative battery cable to the remote terminal on the shock tower.
