THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO VEHICLES BUILT BEFORE MAY 11, 1998 (MDH 0511XX).

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

The glove box door latch assembly may rattle during routine driving conditions.

DIAGNOSIS:

Apply pressure to the center of the glove box door when rattle is occurring. If the rattle goes away, perform the Repair Procedure. If rattle continues this bulletin does not apply and further diagnosis is required.





PARTS REQUIRED:

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

This bulletin involves replacing the glove box latch assembly with a revised part.

1. While the glove box door is closed, remove the four glove box door assembly screws along the bottom of the hinge, then open and remove the door assembly.

2. Remove the nine screws holding the door to the bin, open and expose latch.

3. Remove the screw holding the latch assembly to the back of the door, remove latch assembly.

4. Remove the coded key lock cylinder by installing the key and turning 1/4 turn clockwise, then depress spring key in notched area of black plastic latch plate, turn another 1/4 turn clockwise and pull out lock cylinder.

5. Reverse order to assemble revised latch to door and door to bin.

6. Install door assembly to instrument panel and latch first, then locate hinge properly and attach four screws.

7. Install old lock cylinder by inserting and turning 1/4 turn clockwise.

8. Check for proper latching and key-lock operation.
