1. When replacing the bearings, select the bearing according to the identification marks which are embossed on the crankshaft and cylinder block.
2. The identification mark for the diameter of the cylinder block bearing hole is embossed as shown in the diagram, starting from the No. 1 mark at the front of the engine. Select and install the bearings according to these marks.
3. Select the bearing from the above table after checking the identification marks according to steps (1) and (2).
1. If the crankshaft and journal outer diameter is 60.000 mm (2.3622 inch), the classification will be "0" and the identification mark will be "U".
2. If the identification mark for the diameter of the cylinder block bearing hole is "r", select bearing "1" according to the rationale in the previous step.
4. Install the bearing halves with oil groove on the cylinder block side.
5. Install the bearing halves without oil groove on the bearing cap side.
6. Install the thrust bearings on both sides of the No. 3 bearing with the grooves facing outward.
>B
1. Install the bearing cap with the arrow mark toward the timing belt.
2. Apply engine oil to the threaded portions and bearing surfaces of the bolts.
3. Tighten the bearing cap bolts to the specified torque in the tightening sequence shown in the illustration.
4. After installation of the crankshaft bearing, check the crankshaft end play. If the end play exceeds the limit, replace the crankshaft bearing.
Standard value: 0.05-0.25 mm (0.0020-0.0098 inch
Limit: 0.3 mm (0.012 inch)
>C
1. Using the special tool, press-fit a new crankshaft rear oil seal into the oil seal case.
>D
1. Apply specified sealant to the area shown in the illustration.
Specified sealant:
MITSUBISHI GENUINE Part No. MD970389 or equivalent
2. Apply a small amount of engine oil to the entire circumference of the oil seal lip section, and place the oil seal on the cylinder block.
