B. Replace Fuel Return Hose

NOTE:
Only those vehicles that have a fuel return hose with a 0710 date code as determined by the inspection in Section A require return hose replacement. Very few vehicles are expected to require fuel return hose replacement.

1. Lower the vehicle.

2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

NOTE:
To enhance customer satisfaction, remember to reset the clock when you have completed the service procedure.





3. Pull the two (2) release tabs and then remove the rear seat cushion (Figure 2).





4. Remove the fuel pump module access cover (Figure 3).

5. Disconnect the two (2) fuel pump module electrical connectors.





6. Disconnect the fuel return hose from the fuel pump module (Figure 4).

7. Raise the vehicle on the hoist.

8. Using a transmission jack, support the fuel tank.

9. Remove the two (2) FRONT fuel tank strap nuts.

10. Lower the front of the fuel tank about 3 inches.





11. Disconnect the fuel return hose from the return tube (Figure 5).

12. Remove the return hose from the two (2) clips on the top of the fuel tank and then discard the hose.

IMPORTANT:
Remember to save the small hose clamps for use with the new hose.

13. Install the new fuel hose along the top of the fuel tank and secure it in the two (2) clips.

14. Connect the return hose to the return tube. Make sure that the hose clamp is properly installed.

15. Raise the fuel tank into position.

16. Install the fuel tank straps. Tighten the strap nuts to 19 ft-lbs (26 Nm).

17. Remove the transmission jack.

18. Lower the vehicle.

19. Connect the new return hose to the fuel pump module (Figure 4). Make sure that the hose clamp is properly installed.

20. Connect the two (2) fuel pump module electrical connectors.

21. Install the fuel pump module access cover (Figure 3). Tighten the screws securely.

22. Route the seat belt buckles through the seat cushion openings and then install the rear seat cushion (Figure 2). Make sure that the two cushion retainers are fully seated.

23. Connect the negative battery cable.
