Pressure Hose - 3.8L
INSTALLATION
1. Place pressure hose into engine compartment from below using reverse order of removal.
NOTE: Before installing power steering pressure hose on power steering gear, wipe clean connections with a lint-free cloth and replace O-ring. Lubricate O-ring using clean power steering fluid.
NOTE: When installing hoses to steering gear, it is important to position hose tubes within 18 mm of one another to avoid incorrect routing issues due to engine movement during driving maneuvers.
2. Install pressure hose (3) into gear port. Thread pressure hose tube nut into gear and tighten to 31 Nm (23 ft. lbs.).
3. Install tie strap securing return hose to pressure hose to keep hoses in line with one another (See above note).
4. Install tie-strap clip (1) securing pressure hose to engine cradle.
5. Place pressure hose routing clamp (1) over return hose routing clamp (3) at right side of engine cradle (2) and install screw fastening both to cradle. Tighten screw to 10 Nm (90 in. lbs.).
6. Route hoses up past A/C compressor and install routing clip (2) securing return hose tube (1) to pressure hose tube (3) near drive belt.
7. Lower vehicle to access hose from above.
NOTE: The tube nut on the pump end of the pressure hose is a quick-connect fitting. once assembled to the hose, the quick-connect fitting cannot be removed. If a NEW pressure hose is being installed, a NEW quick-connect fitting must also be installed. Refer to STEP 9 below.
NOTE: Before installing the pressure hose on the power steering pump, replace the O-ring on the end of the hose. Lubricate the O-ring using clean power steering fluid.
8. If a USED pressure hose is being installed (quick-connect fitting attached to hose), thread pressure hose quick connect fitting (2) into pump (1) attaching pressure hose to pump. Tighten quick-connect fitting to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.).
9. If a NEW pressure hose (1) is being installed:
a. Thread NEW quick-connect fitting (3) into power steering pump (2) port. Tighten fitting to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.).
b. Press end of NEW pressure hose (1) into fitting, snapping it into place. Make sure it cannot be pulled back out.
10. Raise and support vehicle.
11. Position pressure (4) and return (1) tubes above A/C compressor (3), then install routing clamp (2) and nut securing them in place. Tighten nut to 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.).
12. Install drive belt splash shield.
13. Install right front tire and wheel assembly (1) Tires and Wheels - Installation. Install and tighten wheel mounting nuts (3) to 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.).
14. Lower vehicle.
15. Install negative (-) battery cable on negative battery post.
16. Fill and bleed power steering system. Service and Repair
17. Inspect for leaks.
