OUTER TIE ROD
1. Install outer tie rod onto inner tie rod threads. As outer tie rod is installed, count out same number rotations as were counted on tie rod removal. This will get toe setting somewhat close to specifications before vehicle is aligned at end of this procedure.
2. Install outer tie rod (4) to steering knuckle (1). Start NEW nut (5) onto stud of outer tie rod by hand. While holding stud stationary using a socket, tighten nut. Using a crowfoot wrench on a torque wrench, tighten nut to 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.), then turn nut an additional 1/2 (180°) turn after that torque is met.
3. Snug tie rod jam nut (2). Do not fully tighten at this time. Tighten tie rod jam nuts to specifications while performing wheel alignment at end of this procedure.
4. Install tire and wheel assembly Tires and Wheels - Installation. Tighten wheel mounting nuts to 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.).
5. Lower vehicle.
6. Perform wheel alignment setting toe to specifications. Service and Repair
