Evaporative Emission Control Canister: Testing and Inspection

1. Disconnect vacuum hoses and remove charcoal canister.
2. Visually inspect canister case for cracks or damage.
3. Check for filter restriction as follows:
a. Blow low compressed air into the tank pipe. Ensure that air flows without resistance from other pipe.
b. Blow low compressed air into purge pipe. Ensure that no air flows from other pipe. No activated charcoal should come out during the cleaning procedure.
4. Clean charcoal canister by blowing compressed air (43 psi) into the tank pipe while holding the other upper canister pipe closed, Fig. 6. Do not attempt to wash the canister. No activated charcoal should come out during the cleaning procedure.
5. Install the charcoal canister and connect vacuum hoses.
