C. Clean and Lubricate Seat Belt Latch Plate

If a latch plate requires cleaning based on the inspection in Section B, or if the customer requests cleaning at a later date, dealers should clean and lubricate the child seat latch plate mechanism following the procedure below:

1. Remove the cloth comfort pad from the affected child seat assembly. The pad is attached with hook and loop (Velcro style) fastener strips (Figure 6).

2. Use a damp cloth to clean the area around the latch plate and the seat belt buckle.

3. Pull the upholstery cover push-in fasteners out of the cushion panel (Figure 7).

4. Remove the two (2) screws that attach the latch plate assembly to the cushion panel.

5. Raise the cushion panel to gain access to the latch plate and cable assembly.

6. Clean the latch plate and cable assembly area with a damp cloth and then lubricate the area with Mopar Silicone Lubricant (PN 4318070) or equivalent (Figure 8).

7. Reinstall the cushion panel. Tighten the latch plate assembly to cushion panel screws to 8 in-lbs (0.9 N.m).

8. Reinstall the cloth comfort pad.

9. Repeat Steps 1-8 for the other child seat assembly if necessary.
