A. Install Child Seat Belt Extensions
1. Close the integrated child seats and fold the seat back forward.2. Remove the seat back cover.
3. Disconnect the child seat lower trim J-clips from the seat support and then remove the screws that hold child seat assembly hinges to the seat back frame lower rail on both child seat assemblies (Figure 1).
4. Return the seat back to the upright position.
5. For 1997 vehicles: Cut the five (5) push clips that fasten the upper bolster trim to the child seat assembly.
6. Cut the push-in fasteners that hold the upper bolster to the child seat assembly (Figure 2)
7. Remove the screws that hold the top of the child seat assembly to the seat back frame upper rail (Figure 3).
8. Separate the child seat assembly from the seat back.
9. Remove and discard the two (2) child seat belt pivot bolts (Figure 4).
10. Remove and discard the pivot tabs from the clips on the belt ends.
11. Attach two of the belt extension pivot tabs to the child seat assembly using two of the supplied bolts (Figure 4). Tighten the pivot bolts to 20 in lbs (2.3 N.m).
NOTE:
The metal rings should face outward and the cloth side of the extension should be inboard (toward the seat).
12. Attach the seat belt end clips to the rings on the extensions.
NOTE:
The open (spring) side of the clips should face outward. The flat side of the clip should face inboard (toward the center of the seat).
13. Wrap the extension belt guards around the seat belt and secure them with the Velcro tabs.
14. Position the outer seat back hinge interlock lever through the center opening of the metal outboard child seat hinge (Figure 5) and then position the child seat assembly back into the seat back. Make sure that the interlock lever is under the mating plastic child seat interlock lever.
15. Using the supplied screws, start all four screws that secure the child seat assembly to the seat back frame upper rail (Figure 3) and lower rail (Figure 1).
16. Tighten all four screws to 70 in-lbs (8 N.m).
17. Secure the upper bolster to the child seat assembly with two of the new push-in fasteners (Figure 2).
18. For 1997 vehicles: Secure the upper bolster trim to the child seat assembly with five of the new push-in fasteners.
19. Repeat Steps 5 - 18 for the other child seat assembly.
20. Fold the seat back forward.
21. Clip the child seat lower trim pad J-clips to the rear seat support on both child seat assemblies (Figure 1).
22. Install the seat back cover.
23. Return the seat back to the upright position.
24. Verify proper hinge interlock operation by unfolding one of the child seats and then trying to fold the seat back forward. The seat back should not fold. Repeat the interlock test for the other child seat. Then, return both child seats to the stowed position and try to fold the seat back forward. The seat back should fold.
25. Place the provided child seat owner manual addendum card on the front passenger seat.
