Differential Carrier Replacement


1. Drain oil from differential gear housing.
2. Remove both right and left side axle shafts.
3. Remove driveshaft, then the torque tube using the following procedure:
a. Apply parking brake, then loosen torque tube companion flange attaching nut. Do not remove nut at this time.
b. Remove torque tube to differential carrier attaching bolts, then the torque tube to front support attaching bolts.
c. Using suitable puller, disconnect extension shaft spline from spline coupling.
d. Remove puller assembly, then remove torque tube assembly from out rear of vehicle.
4. Remove rear support insulator to crossmember and rear support to rear support insulator attaching bolts.
5. Raise differential carrier with a suitable jack and disconnect differential from rear support insulators, then remove assembly from vehicle.
6. Remove rear supports, cover and gaskets.
7. Reverse procedure to install. Apply suitable sealant to mating surfaces of vent plug and cover and to the rear cover and gasket.
