Neutral Safety Switch: Description and Operation

Neutral Safety Switch:

The engine controller receives input from the PARK/NEUTRAL switch to determine the operational status of the automatic transmission. The engine controller uses this input to determine idle speed, fuel injection pulse width, and ignition timing advance. The PARK/NEUTRAL switch is mounted on the transmission housing.
