Compressor HVAC: Service and Repair
REMOVAL1. Recover refrigerant from A/C system.
2. Disconnect negative battery cable and isolate it.
A/C Compressor Lines-(typical):
3. Remove refrigerant lines from compressor.
NOTE: Cap lines while system is open to prevent moisture from entering system.
4. Disconnect compressor clutch wire lead.
5. Remove the top two bolts from the compressor.
6. Raise and support vehicle.
7. Remove drive belt.
8. Remove the right front tire.
9. Remove the right front splash shield.
10. Remove the belt from the compressor.
A/C Compressor Mounting Bolts:
11. Remove two lower compressor mounting bolts and lower compressor from vehicle.
12. Be sure to pour the refrigerant oil from the compressor into a graduated measuring cup so that the proper volume of new refrigerant oil can he installed into the new compressor.
INSTALLATION
CAUTION: Add only new lubricant when system requires additional lubricant. Do not use old reclaimed lubricant.
1. Measure and install the exact amount of refrigerant oil in new compressor as was removed from old compressor.
2. Position the compressor onto the bracket.
3. Install the lower two compressor mounting bolts.
4. Remove protective caps if installed.
5. Install the compressor refrigerant lines.
6. Connect the compressor wire connector.
7. Install the drive belts.
8. Install the right inner splash shield.
9. Install the right front tire.
10. Lower the vehicle.
11. Install the two upper mounting bolts.
12. Tighten the compressor mounting bolts to 28 Nm (250 in. lbs.).
13. Tighten the compressor lines to 12 Nm (108 in. lbs.).
14. Connect the battery negative cable.
15. Evacuate the refrigerant system.
16. Recharge the A/C system if needed.
